About the Event

For the 2023-2024 School year, meetings will ​​be held at the Bible Tabernacle on HWY 22 in the downstairs fellowship hall.  We will typically meet from 1-2:30pm on the 2nd Thursday of the Month.

Thank you to those who stepped up to make book club happen as teachers, helpers and substitutes!

​​PreK-​Kindergarten with Lindsi Hill, Nicole McDermott and Hillary Smith:  Students will be reading a book in class, followed by a craft/snack. A $1 donation per child is appreciated for supplies each class.  We need an RSVP each month to prepare for crafts/snacks.  

1st-3rd Grades with Tiffany Francis and Deanna Duby:  Students will be reading a book in class, followed by a craft​ ​or snack.​  A $1 donation per child is appreciated for supplies each class.  We need an RSVP each month to prepare for crafts/snacks.

​4th-6th Grades with Deana Dyer and David Miedema:  ​​​​Students will ​re​ad ​their book selection ​prior to coming to book club and will discuss it in class.  You may read the book to your child, they can listen to it on audiobook, or they may read it on their own.

November:  Gregor the Overlander (From The Underland Chronicles)  by Suzanne Collins (available on Hoopla and Libby)

December:  Call it Courage by Armstrong Sperry (available on Hoopla)

January:  Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh by Robert C. O'Brien (available on Hoopla and Libby)

February:  The Dangerous Journey by John Bunyan

March:  Ride the River by Louis L'Amour (available on Libby as a book, not an audiobook) - Many of the chapters are available on YouTube

April:  Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park (available on Hoopla and Libby)

May:  Father and I were Ranchers by Ralph Moody (available on Hoopla)

7th-12th Grades* with Barbee Decker and Vanessa Fagan:  Students will ​re​ad ​their book selection ​prior to coming to book club and will discuss it in class.

September:  Do Hard Things - By Alex & Brett Harris (available on Libby as a book, not an audiobook)

November:  Princess Bride by William Goldman (available on Hoopla and Libby) - This one is supposed to be better as an audiobook!

February:  Echo by Pam Munoz Ryan (available on Hoopla) - This one is supposed to be PHENOMENAL as an audiobook!

March:  Moon over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool (available on Libby as a book, not an audiobook)

April:  Carry on Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham - Many of the chapters are available on YouTube (by the Internet Grandpa)

May:  Cloak of the Light by Chuck Black (available on Hoopla)

*Based on the number of students that sign up for this age group, we are willing to split the group up for 7th-9th graders and 10-12th graders, but we need to know what the need is.  Please send an email to ches.homeschoolinggroup@gmail.com to let us know if you have children in this age group.

We will meet the second Thursday of each month.
